This group began sitting in July 2013 as an experiment using the 'Basic Guide' published by the 'Scole Experimental Group' in 1996.

We've changed the way we sit over the years. I am continuing to develop trance mediumship and Liz gives a mixture of evidential clairvoyance, inspired speaking and trance...

Our intentions are to receive information that will help us understand the bigger picture, why we are here, what happens when we die, the mechanics of mediumship and how we can help in raising the quality of consciousness...

68th Sitting 26/05/2015


We had the room setup as usual.

Liz was feeling very tired this week after a busy day working and travelling. She was thinking about sitting another day but felt she should be okay to sit.

I did the opening prayer at 8.40pm.
Then we did the Rainbow Bridge Exercise.

Liz found herself crossing beautiful wickerwork bridges across pools of lilies to an island where she saw a little Japanese pagoda temple with beautiful flower bushes around it including yellow roses. A Japanese lady in a beautiful yellow kimono invited Liz to join her. She was making a tea ceremony to sit and have tea with her all done very beautifully and in silence. It was jasmine tea and she said it was very important for stilling the mind. It felt to Liz as if outside this little island there were wolves and terrible things going on, a wild world, but here was an oasis of calm. Liz then got an image of people skiing and abseiling, doing dare devil things and the lady said this was another way of being in the present. That was the thing, it was a teaching about stilling the mind and being in the present but for some people this heightened activity also brings you into the present. She then went on to explain that playing the piano or having a skill, something artistic or beautiful that you can focus on also brings you into the present and stills the mind, this was very important. Then the lady got an enormous piece of white linen and wrapped it around Liz like a cocoon. It was silk and Liz felt like a silk worm sheathed in silk. The lady asked Liz what she was going to turn into, she was being given the opportunity to metamorphose, change into something. Liz wanted to change into what she really was, a human being but the lady was challenging Liz as to what it was she really was. Then Liz went into a dream and there were images of birds and butterflies and Liz got lost in it, she wasn’t sure what she really was and the last image she got was holding a baby, a mother and baby…

I started off walking across wet flat sand on a beach towards the sea. When I reached the sea I found I could walk on it without sinking and just kept going until all land disappeared. It was just me walking on the sea and all I could see was sea in all directions. I carried on then spotted an island up ahead. As I got closer it appeared smaller than I first thought and when I reached it it was about one metre across. It then occurred to me that the island was really much bigger and it was me that had increased in size. With no points of reference except the sea I hadn’t noticed. I concentrated on trying to reduce my size again which seemed to take a lot of time and effort but eventually I was normal size again and walked onto the island. It was grassy with lots of trees and teeming with people wandering around aimlessly as if in their own world. They didn’t seem to acknowledge each other or see me but just kept walking around through the trees. I noticed they all looked to be from different periods in time from Stone Age man to modern times. I tried to talk to some of them and get their attention but they all looked straight through me. I then found what looked like a tall radio mast in the centre of the island and I could see strands like laser beams coming down from the top and connecting to each person on the island. They were all getting twisted together as the people walked about in different directions. There was an official looking man sitting at the bottom of the mast who saw me and looked surprised that I was there. I asked him what was going on and he told me that this island was like a library of all my previous lives on Earth. He said it was very important to keep each character and all its memories alive. These memories could be tapped into by mediums and anyone who was able to connect with this place. He went on to say there were islands like this for everybody. I wanted to ask more but ran out of time…

We continued with our session. I played one tune then like last week we continued in silence.

I picked up a hissing sound in my right ear then I got it in both ears for a few minutes.
I felt a pressure around my left ear like something was being pressed against it.
Then my whole head and ears felt fuzzy for a few minutes.
My legs were very cold below the knees.

The atmosphere was bright and bobby to me.
I saw white wispy bits swirling about.

Liz drifted off then fell asleep.
She remained asleep for the rest of the session.

After Liz fell asleep the room appeared to get darker to me with a few flashes and pin prick lights moving around.
I got a strong image of yellow and purple flowers in containers.

I drifted off briefly and came back with a dream memory of floating up to the ceiling in the room near the wall above where Liz was sitting. I was having a conversation with Liz but remember little of what was said except that Liz had just received some sort of mediumistic message and I was asking her if I could get the same. Liz said I could but had to run something along the wall first, a bit like striking a match along the side of a match box.

Towards the end of the session I got an image of an elderly lady with long hair and very thin bony hands to my left looking at Liz. I felt I knew her but couldn’t place her. Her face then morphed into an eagle and moved towards Liz disappearing into a cloud.

We the CD ended I called Liz back.
She didn’t recall any dreams or messages and still felt very sleepy.

Liz then did the healing exercise, closing prayer and our closing down exercise.

We’re still not sure if sitting without music is beneficial or not to the sitting. We’ll try it again next week then try something else.

We decided that in future if either of us felt particularly tired we would move the sitting to another day.
Liz had felt something was going on as she slept but was unable to bring anything forward tonight.
It’s possible I was tuning into her dreams when I drifted off and floated up to the ceiling…

67th Sitting 19/05/2015


We had the room set-up as usual but this week we experimented with no music playing.

We still had our music for the Rainbow Bridge Exercise and we played the first tune after that then I turned the music volume off but kept the CD playing so I could keep a check on where we were time wise during the session by turning it up slightly at times to hear what was playing.

I gave the opening prayer at 8.40pm then we did the Rainbow Bridge Exercise…

Liz started off at a deep ravine with tumbling streams at the bottom and waterfalls. There were bungee cords and Tarzan like swings hanging from a bridge going over it and people were swinging from these instead of going over the bridge. It was like an adventure playground and Liz decided to grab a rope and whiz across. It was great fun and Liz found herself tumbling down into a great pile of moss. It had a beautiful texture and Liz was aware of moths, insects and spider webs around her. She followed the web which took her further into enormous old oaks where she saw of lots of little people like fairies and different beings. It was a community of people. She climbed up a rope ladder and saw tree houses and structures in the trees; the whole community was living in the trees. A strange silvery coloured man with blonde hair, a bit like a wizard, met Liz at a tree house. He showed her the importance of it all and pointed at the moon which was now shining telling her how it was important for all the creatures of the night. It had been the sun, now it was the moon and both these luminaries were important. He told Liz this wood was a living community of beings, teeming with life and this was her portion in this life; it was like a slice that Liz was being offered to record and to draw. It was like an incredibly intricate dance, all these different insects, frogs, butterflies, lizards, snakes, birds and fairies, all interwoven, all with Liz together in this community and Liz had to study them and be with them. It was a very important environment to the Earth. Liz had been given this portion to look after and cherish. She would come back and have this opportunity to record all this intricate life and to bring it to life for other people…

I started off in a bedroom looking out at the garden where in was snowing. I wanted to be out there and as I was thinking that found myself in the garden standing in the snow. The garden was surrounded by a high brick wall and I saw a ladder against it so climbed up it to see what was on the other side. It was a brightly coloured magical landscape and I leapt off the wall landing on soft green grass. The sun was shining and it was pleasantly warm with a gentle breeze. I saw hundreds of multi-coloured flowers and as I walked past they turned to face me. I heard music coming from them and also clouds of fluffy seeds which filled the atmosphere and stuck to me as I walked. I was soon covered in these light fluffy seeds. The wind then blew me into the air, higher and higher and I watched the colourful landscape get smaller and smaller until I found myself in space heading towards the moon which looked like a bright light bulb. I landed and it appeared to be made entirely of cheese. I picked a bit up to taste and sure enough it was cheese. I decided to explore and passed some cheese shops which were closing down as nobody wanted to buy cheese when it was so freely available. I then met a giant mouse, it was the same size as me and told me what a wonderful place this was, all the food was free and everybody shared. The mouse handed me a piece of gift wrapped cheese and said that this is what it could be like on Earth if everybody thought of others, shared everything and were not so greedy. There was enough food on Earth for everybody; no one should ever go hungry. I thanked the mouse and took off for home finding myself back in the bedroom as if I had just woken up. I thought it must have been a dream but then noticed the gift wrapped cheese on the table…

We continued with our session…

I felt tightness around my forehead.
It looked lighter and misty to me and then a few bright blobs started coming and going in front of me.

Liz had a vision of lots of mountains and then waves in the room.
Then she got a strong image of a mouse.

I saw pin-pricks swirling around the room.
It looked like the atmosphere was getting closer to me.

Liz heard musical notes in her left ear, like a wind instrument.
I picked up a high pitched sound like a symbol being lightly tapped.

Liz got the name ‘Barbra’

Liz felt cold.
I was warm.

Without the music playing it felt to me like I was sitting out in the open and not in a small room.
I saw images of three old ladies, one at a time, I felt I knew them but couldn’t think who they were.

Liz began speaking…

‘I seem to be in two places at once… I saw two people, men; they seemed to be one of the same…’

‘I’m under an overhanging tree, it’s a birch…’

‘Christabel… I have a belt woven in bright colours…’

‘I got a strong sense of the forest, woodlice and creatures… It’s a good place to be… There’s your mouse, long tail…’

‘I have this pattern like shingles or like the way feathers are layered on each other, a shelter, it’s a pattern in nature like pine cones, it’s the overlapping layers, a way of keeping out the rain, a protection, shells, scales, husks… I now have a sense of pushing up through the soil like a mushroom and there you have on the cap of the mushroom the scales… A sense of upheavals and the sense of the importance of shelter, to trust the Earth and the safe places and follow the patterns of nature, sustainability, close to the soil, close to the earth, the way of the forest…’

‘I had a face like a great Aztec or Mien leader. I felt there was an emphasis that in building up the big structures they’d lost the sense of the Earth… emphasising the importance of going back to fundamentals… great cities, great edifices are crumbling, covered in flies, nature is taking over…’

‘Somebody was flashing a silver spoon, a flash of light. I get the sense that’s the image of being spoon fed, being born with a silver spoon in their mouth… We’ve got so much technology, so much edifice… as all edifices it’s vulnerable, Earth changes, we need to learn to survive, go back to basics…’

‘Christabel is showing me the rainbow colours in her weaving because the rainbow wishes a promise, hope, salvation…’

‘I’ve got the name Pat…’

‘There’s somebody in a wheelchair, paraplegic… somebody who has no movement in her spine…’

‘I’ve got a picture of somebody who looks like Richard Branson… he seems to have got older, has a big beard now and a pipe, large white bushy beard…’

‘I get a strange sense of tunnelling in the Moon… Cordalite… It’s a beautiful shell like a conch, perfect form…’

‘I’ve got Terrence again…’

‘There’s a golden light coming from the right… I’ve had a black couple, I’m not sure which nationality, a woman connected… a bit like twins, I couldn’t tell from her accent where she was from. I had the feeling she was trying to disguise it, pretend to be somebody else, it’s a bit like a dream, that’s all I could bring back, it was like a conversation going on between these two people, I wasn’t sure if it was one of the same person connected like husband and wife…’

I asked… ‘Were they aware of you being there?’

‘I don’t think so… I wasn’t going to mention it but then I got this golden light…’

‘I had a very strong sense of Robin Hood type characters, people involved in that, I even had a sense of somebody in a peeked cap and hood watching themselves hanging, being hung from a tree…’

I asked… ‘So they were outside of themselves?’

‘I think so; I sent them to the light…’

‘I’ve got a pile of plates and a large man is moving them… I don’t know if it’s connected to a restaurant or circus… it’s a restaurant…’

‘I’ve got this strange sensation almost like a snake or something, came with the name Laura Lee, it was almost as if she was curled up asleep at the bottom of this date palm tree, a rather furry trunk at the bottom, close to the forest floor…’

‘I’m on a tobacco boat, lots of different people, looks like a connection with the slave trade, trading, it seems to be a connection with the West Indies, tobacco… A strong mixture of black and white people living simply… gold… I just left peace to all protagonists in this pageant, that’s what it’s like, a pageant… I’m looking up at the star now, I just end with peace that passes all understanding to all players, all images, all imaginings, all imagination, everything on both sides… peace..’

The music CD had ended.

I checked Liz was back with it and feeling okay.  

I had drifted off a couple of times during the session but didn’t bring back any dream memories.

Liz had had the sensation of falling sideways.
A lot of what she got disappeared from her memory before she could verbalise it, a bit like a dream.

Liz did the healing exercise, closing prayer and our closing down exercise.

66th Sitting 12/05/2015


Liz was back from her holiday and we had guest sitter Caroline with us.
Caroline used to sit with the trance medium Sheila who had made herself known to us through Liz during our Mercury Experiment 5703/02/2015 and has continued to make herself known several times since then.

I gave the opening prayer at 8.40pm.

We then did the Rainbow Bridge visualisation exercise…

Liz found herself in a tropical scene; there were banana plants, trees and lots of people carrying bundles of fruit. It was dusty and sandy; Liz felt she was in Egypt. There was a big river like the Nile and Liz wanted to get to the other side where she could see pyramids, she felt it was very spiritual. There was a long thin basket woven rickety bridge which Liz crossed and she felt snake energy. On the other side she felt very alone in this valley of pyramids. Then a man with a fez and several others appeared to direct her. Liz wanted to go to the right down into the earth through a pyramid entrance but they were directing her to one on the left where there were steps like a ziggurat going up. Liz went up them and found herself alone at the top then saw an elderly man with a white beard. She felt he was Semitic, Jewish, he had a priest’s hat on and took Liz inside where she again felt snake energy. He had astrological symbols and it was the Temple of Aesculapius, the dream incubation temple. He told Liz this was the healing temple and the snake was very important. The pyramid facilitated the dreams. As they sat talking there was suddenly snow all around and Liz felt confused but then thought this was the manna from heaven that the Jews experienced in the desert. All these things coalesced together, the crossing of the Nile, leaving Egypt; it was as if Liz was being shown all these things. Liz asked some questions about dreaming and he told her the shape of the attic room she slept in was good for dreams. The pyramid was like a universal field of information that could be accessed and Liz could do that in her room…

Caroline found herself in a desert and on her left there were miles of sand and in the distance vast buildings looked hazy against a bright golden sunset. On the right it was like a microcosm and as she looked to the right she felt she was shrinking and saw huge bees that were trying to teach her something but couldn’t understand what it was. The bees were dancing in geometric patterns and it seemed to be about pollen not sticking to their legs. There was honey just lying about, not in hives…    

I started off in a thick, dark, misty forest and had to push myself through all the dangling branches. I saw flashes through the trees like car headlamps in the distance. As I carried on the trees thinned then disappeared, it became brighter but still misty grey then white. I stopped as the mist cleared and I saw I was standing at the edge of a cliff. Down below me was a pebble beach and a river while each side of me were 100s of puffins also standing at the edge. I wanted to get down to the beach so turned myself into a puffin, jumped off and glided down landing on the beach where I changed back to myself again. I felt I should cross the river but was drawn towards the cliff where there was a cave. I went in; it was light inside with silver walls and lots of cats wandering around. I saw what looked like a healing couch with two robed monks standing at each end. There were electrical terminals on each end of the couch and the monks invited me to lie down. As I lay on the couch they held onto the terminals and I felt an electrical charge run through me which had the effect of clearing my mind. I found I could think about puzzling spiritual mysteries and they seemed to become simplified and more understandable. It seemed to work for complicated dreams as well when I recalled them. The message I got from this was not to complicate things, just keep it simple and it will become understandable…

I put the music back on and we continued our session.

Liz had the sensation she was falling sideways.

The room was looking lighter and flashy to me.
I felt tightness around my forehead.
My legs got cold.

Liz got the number ‘66’
(We didn’t realise at the time but this was the 66th session)

Liz continued…

‘I get the sense of being in the room of a house, a bit like the place that Virginia Woolf used to visit, where the artists used to live. (Charleston House) Where they decorated the rooms with paintings everywhere, a very creative space. The walls were hand painted instead of wall-paper. A very happy friendly feeling… Kitty the cat, tabby cat… I get a needle, sowing needle, patchwork…’

‘I keep coming back to this rural community. A cart with hay bales, man with a long black beard and a sort of smock. I’m not sure what this is all about… a good way to live’

‘I got the name Frederick several times…’

(Afterwards Caroline told us that Frederick is Sheila’s grandson. She had been like a mother to him after his mother had died)

Liz continued…

‘I keep getting that scene juxtaposed with a train… either the train broke up that idyll or the train represents the transition, the journey… My feeling is that there was an attempt to recreate that idyll but it’s actually rather fixed, it’s like a nostalgic pastoral scene, it was good and creative when it was alive but it’s got stultified… I sense that whatever it is wants to move on, it’s okay, it’s empowered like a motive, carrying forth and it’s okay to go with it. You can still carry the idiom with you, the essence of it, the creativity…’

‘I got the name Leslie Harvey, I thought it was a medium… seems to be connected with birds… stars…’

(Afterwards Caroline also told us that Sheila’s surname was Have but it was pronounced Harvey. She wasn’t sure who Leslie was)

Liz continued…

‘I have an image of a green close knit jumper unravelling’

‘I got this cantilever… it’s to do with the bridge, this incredible cantilever structure, cross pieces, someone to do with engineering. Pylons… very ornate structures and I get the feeling all this work is wasted… structures collapsing… it’s his own invention. He’s devastated when his structures are destroyed… You think that these structures are very permanent, so carefully constructed, intricate… but everything that’s been destroyed can be built again, the pattern is there. Once you have a pattern it’s imprinted and the physical structure doesn’t… it’s neither here nor there, the pattern can be created again and again… It’s the same with the knitting, there’s the jumper that’s unravelled but if you know how to knit you can knit it again, the pattern… that’s the value of patenting, you patent the pattern so even though the physical body breaks down and deteriorates the pattern patent is still there, you can come back to it any time… Same with the pastoral idyll that was a good life style, a patent pattern, it’s there, leave it behind, it can be recreated any time’

‘I’ve got a maple tree…’

Liz felt she was being pulled to one side again.
She was getting lots of little fragmentary bits but nothing was clear. She got the name ‘Humphrey’ but there were too many different things coming from different sides to be able to verbalise clearly.
(Liz later said that she sensed a pub at this time and Caroline told us that Frederick ran a pub)

The music ended and once Liz was feeling back with it she did the healing exercise, closing prayer and our closing down exercise.

Caroline had enjoyed the session but found the music distracting.
Liz has also at times has asked for it to be turned down so we may well experiment sitting without music in the future…
